I am honored to be a part of someone’s unique journey as they seek peace and healing in their lives. Our lives are so full of being busy that we don’t take the time for self-discovery or to reflect on the support we need. Often so much emotional pain exists because of our relationships (past and current) with others and ourselves. It is through our relationship in therapy that you may feel safe to befriend difficult emotions, tame destructive ones, and fully accept positive ones. It is through gentle curiosity that we work together to help you gently unfold what your needs are, and develop the skills to treat yourself and others with tenderness and care.
Play is the predominant language of communication for children. In my office, I have a great play area that includes games, toys, art supplies, and a sand tray to engage children in play. Typically, the children I work with may be having a hard time at school, or dealing with family or relationship issues, such as divorce or sibling rivalry. They also may be dealing with anxiety or stress, or learning how to manage “big” emotions. When working with children, it is important to also include the parents. To support this goal, I provide parent coaching to assist parents when they may be feeling overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next. My goal is to support the healing relationship between the caregiver and child.
Adolescence is a marked time of turbulence and growth. Adolescents are going through many physical changes and changes in the ways they think, act, feel, and interact with the world. Many of these behaviors are difficult for adults to understand and know how to support their teen. Often adolescents experience overwhelming sadness, difficult peer relationships, identity confusion, anxiety and stress related to school, and drug or alcohol use. Therapy can be a safe space for adolescents to make sense of their inner world and learn ways to bring compassion and kindness to themselves when they are hurting. I have been inspired by working with adolescents as they sort through difficult times and transform into the best version of themselves.
When providing counseling to children and adolescents, I also support the family during the same time frame. This may consist of just a few minutes at the beginning or end of the session, or it may consist of a focused parent coaching session. I am able to support the whole family, if needed. I encourage parents to stay in the room until the child is ready to be alone with me.
I can provide online counseling through a confidential, HIPAA-compliant video chat system. This service allows you to access counseling from the convenience of your smartphone or computer in the comfort of your home without traveling to an office. Please check with your insurance provider to determine if they support reimbursement for online therapy. This is available to anyone regardless of where they are living in Texas.
