What to Expect
In Person Counseling
My office is in a home that has been converted into office space. There are three houses on the property, my office is in Luna House. It will be the first one you pass on the property and please feel free to park wherever. When you come in for your session, the waiting room is to the left. You can take a seat and grab some tea or water if you want. I’ll come get you at your appointment time.
I know that first session can be terrifying and my hope is that in our initial time together you can get a sense of what it’s like sit in the therapy space. I know that in the initial session there can be a tendency to share it ALL. However, I believe that first and foremost that we need to establish a relationship of trust and comfort – that will take time. There will be time to ask your questions and we will spend time getting to know each other. I may ask you a question you don’t want to answer and that’s ok – please tell me. I believe that you are the expert on your experience, and my role is to work collaboratively with you in the therapy space. In sessions we will explore who you are now and your current relationships as well as explore some of your past, including early childhood, family of origin, and any trauma history. I know it can be difficult to open up to a stranger, but I encourage you to move as fast or as slow as you want. In those first few sessions it’s about establishing a relationship where you feel held with compassion and non-judgement. I will periodically check in with you throughout our work together to determine if the therapy space is working for you – if it is not please let me know and we can discuss next steps (e.g. I can change my approach or I can help you find a therapist who is a better fit). The therapy space is about you and your needs.
I can provide online counseling through a confidential, HIPAA-compliant video chat system. This service allows you to access counseling from the convenience of your smartphone or computer in the comfort of your home without traveling to an office. Please check with your insurance provider to determine if they support reimbursement for online therapy. This is available to anyone regardless of where they are living in Texas.
